Become a Member at City Market
Join Burlington's Community-Owned Grocery Co-op
Everyone is welcome to shop at City Market — you don't need to be a Member. But when you join as a Member you become part of Burlington's only community-owned grocery co-op — a business that will be locally owned forever.
Your Membership strengthens Vermont's local food system, supports local growers and producers, and gives you real savings and a real voice in how your Co-op is run.
Why Become a Member?
Co-op Membership isn't a rewards card — it's ownership. For just $15 a year, you hold equity in a community-owned business, get access to real savings, and have the opportunity to make a difference in your community in a variety of ways.

-
20% off semi-annually during Member Discount Days (spring and fall)

How Co-op Membership Works
Joining City Market is different from signing up for a grocery store loyalty card. As a Member, you hold equity in a cooperatively owned business — one that's been community-owned in Burlington since 1973.
Your $15 annual equity payment builds toward a full $200 share over time. Once you're paid in full, your Membership never expires. And unlike a traditional grocery chain, the Co-op is governed by its Members: you vote for the Board of Directors, attend annual meetings, and have a direct say in how your store operates.
Shareholding Membership
With an equity payment of just $15 per year, you receive all the benefits of Membership. Here are the details:
Food for All Membership
City Market's Food for All (FFA) program is a free discount program designed to increase food access for Vermonters. If you participate in 3SquaresVT (SNAP/EBT), WIC, or SSI/SSDI, you may be eligible for a 15% discount in Produce and Bulk and a 10% discount storewide.
Non-Profit Membership
Non-profit organizations can join as Members of the Co-op and receive a 15% discount on all purchases (excluding alcohol, newspapers, bus passes and stamps).
How to qualify:
Applicants must provide documentation of non-profit status, including proof of non-profit corporation status in the State of Vermont or proof of 501(c)(3) status.
How to sign up:
Stop by our Customer Service desk at either store - Non-profit status will not be approved until documentation reaches the Membership team. Questions? Email our Membership team at membership@citymarket.coop.
Please note: A non-profit member's Patronage Card is for business use only. Individuals who work for the organization may not use the Patronage Card for personal purchases.
