Ingredients
2 cups split peas
10 cups water
1 bay leaf
2 teaspoons salt
2 onion (chopped)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
3 celery (stalk, chopped)
2 carrot (chopped)
1 potato (chopped)
3 tablespoons white vinegar
Instructions
Place split peas, water, bay leaf, and salt in a large soup pot. Bring to a boil, lower heat as much as possible, and simmer, partially covered, for 20 minutes. Add carrots and potatoes, cooking for 10 minutes, then add onion, garlic, and celery. Continue to simmer for about 40 minutes more with occasional stirring. Add vinegar and black pepper to taste.
