Signs of Spring – Sign Up for Your CSA!
Spring’s the last chance to sign up for your season’s worth of fresh local food from the 29 CSA farms that operate in Chittenden County.
CSAs aren’t just for produce anymore. Looking through the list of CSAs recently I was struck to find bread, cheese, milk, maple syrup, canned goods, berries, chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, beef, fruit, grains, eggs, flowers and even guinea fowl in addition to the traditional CSA staple of vegetables!
Closest to home, Burlington’s got a new CSA farm – Jen Miller and Amie Francoeur are starting up Samara Farm to specialize in ‘sensible size shares for individuals and small families.’ Sounds like their ‘Very Small CSA Share’ will fit perfectly into many small Burlington apartment kitchens!
Looking for a way to afford your CSA Share? Check out NOFA Vermont’s Farm Share program. This assisted share program subsidizes your CSA share at many of the farms across the state. Make sure to apply soon, though; the awesome program fills up quickly!
