Beer and Wine March Newsletter: Brewery of the Month

Peak Organic Brewing Company, in Portland, Maine was started by Jon Cadoux when he was doing his own homebrews. Today, Peak Brewing is known for their certified organic beers and creating the first Fair Trade Certified beer in the US.

Cadoux started home brewing with his friend Rob Lucente (Co-Founder of Peak) when they were in college. They continued to brew together after graduation in the Boston area where they both worked in other industries. After doing a few batches using organic ingredients (hops and barley) they realized there was nothing in the market that tasted as good as their homebrews that contained the organic ingredients.  John then decided that he would attempt to combine his passion for local, sustainable agriculture with his love for brewing and in 2006 Peak Brewing Company was born. 

Peak sources from all over and they work with several different farmers, but they currently use more products from New England than any other brewery. Their products are currently sold to all the New England states, New York City, Washington, D.C. and Southern California.

Today Peak Brewing has over 20 employees at the brewery. They're the only true organic beer that we sell at City Market and we always carry the rotating seasonal and currently carry the following six packs year round:

• Fresh Cut Pilsner
• Pomegranate
