Beer and Wine November Newsletter: Brewery of the Month
Bill Cherry began Switchback Brewing Company way back in 2002, just off of Pine Street, near the mighty Magic Hat Brewing Company, seemingly creating an instant polar dichotomy of styles. Magic Hat is a marketing juggernaut, inventing new brews and colorful and quirky labels seemingly every month. Switchback never had any marketing designs whatsoever. Bill has not changed his recipe or his graphics even once. Heck, he didn't even start bottling until a few years ago, gaining his impressive following via draft only. And when he did finally give in to the people’s demand for retail packaging, his 22 ounce bottles were an instant success (here at City Market, we have sold about 500 cases to date this year alone).
Building upon that success, Bill now also releases rotating seasonal brews; Dooley’s Porter, brewed with Simcoe hops; Roasted Red Ale, with roasty, caramel malts; Citra-Pils, a traditional style Pilsner, except dry hopped with Citra hops; Extra Pale Ale, using Cascade, Centennial, and Chinook hops from the UVM Hop Extension Program; and Marzen Fest-Beer, a well-balanced hoppy/malty Octoberfest. Bill’s original Switchback Ale is unfiltered, a light amber in color, with complex flavors and a wonderful malty finish. But now for the big news: 6 packs are coming soon!
