Beer and Wine June E-Newsletter: Local Feature
Frost Beer Works is Vermont’s newest brewery (probably not by the time this is published, they’re coming so fast!), this time out of Hinesburg. Garin Frost has had it in his head that he wanted to open a brewery for the past 25 years, and the beer climate in the state now made this the perfect time. He opened up his space on Commerce Street in Hinesburg with the thought of brewing beers that he would like to drink; and he likes to drink IPAs.
However, rather than creating a “kitchen sink” hop-bomb, he wanted to focus on more balanced flavor profiles, in order for his beer to better pair with food. Look for a good malt backbone in any of his four (so far) beers, with notes of caramel along for the hoppy ride. While he still works full time in his other career, he has hired a full time brewer in Mike Lieser. Mike graduated from the University of California, Davis program and is a veteran of Oskar Blues Brewery in Boulder, Colorado. So he comes with chops.
