City Market Hires New General Manager
Co-op hires John Tashiro as new leader
Mr. Tashiro most recently served as the Operating Director and Interim CEO of 1% for the Planet, an environmental non-profit based in Burlington. Rachel Jolly, Chair of the Board’s Search Committee, shares that, “The Board is extremely grateful for Pat Burns’s leadership over his seven years with the Co-op and his assistance with this important transition. John comes to the Co-op with over 20 years of experience in management, operations, marketing, fundraising, and cultivating partnerships. As we create the next chapter in our Co-op’s future, we’re excited to bring a General Manager on board that will step into this important leadership position with a depth and breadth of experience to facilitate staff, Member and community engagement and cooperative growth.”
As one of the largest single-store food co-ops in the United States, with over $38 million in sales, this is an important transition for the 43-year old City Market as it works to grow into a second store in the South End of Burlington. Throughout the summer, City Market will be holding town hall-style meetings for staff, Members and the community to engage with John. Community members are encouraged to introduce themselves to the Co-op’s new General Manager throughout this transition and share feedback along the way.
