Beer and Wine April Newsletter: Local Feature
This month we wanted to feature a very fine winery located in the heart of Vermont: Fresh Tracks Farm of Berlin, VT. Christina Castegren, who studied Plant and Soil Sciences at UVM, started Fresh Tracks 10 years ago. The farm covers 14 acres on the Dog River and is home to chickens, pigs, and horses, in addition to wine grapes. Christina and her staff have tapped over 1,000 maple trees for syrup, sustainably harvest firewood, and create their own compost. They utilize geothermal energy to heat and cool their tasting room and winery and solar panels to supplement their electricity use.
Christina makes fantastic wines, such as Frontenac Gris, Apple Wine, Little Piggy Pink, Vermont Rosé, and Dog River Red. The two that we carry here at City Market are the Dog River Red, which won the Bronze Medal at the 2014 Big E Wine Competition, and the Little Piggy Pink (my favorite), which garnered the Silver Medal at the 2014 Big E Wine Competition. Both are highly recommended, so come by and pick some up!
