Transitioning in 2015

By Pat Burns, General Manager

At December’s City Market Board meeting, I shared with the Co-op Board of Directors that I will not be renewing my contract when it expires as of June 30, 2015. While it’s a bit impersonal to share this information in an emailed newsletter, we wanted to share this news with Members and customers as soon as practical.

While a General Manager transition can be a bit stressful for any organization, our Board will conduct a thorough, transparent and yet expeditious search for the Co-op’s new General Manager. We have an amazing organization in the Co-op and very engaged staff, Members and customers. I will work with the Board and the Leadership Team to make sure that this transition is as smooth as possible and certainly welcome your feedback as we go through the process.

The Board is already at work on two important steps in their hiring process:

Creating a Search Committee

The Board created a 3 person Search Committee at their December meeting. This Committee will be responsible for completing the necessary recruiting and screening and reporting back to the full Board.

Hiring an Outside Consultant

In early January, the Search Committee will be meeting with potential consultants to assist them with recruitment, screening candidates, assisting with interviews, soliciting feedback from staff and Members, checking references and keeping the hiring process on track.

We’ll continue to report on the work of this Search Committee in future newsletters or in direct informational emails to Members.

I have enjoyed my more than 8 years at City Market tremendously. I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be involved with an organization that is so focused on and driven to be a vehicle for positive community change and support. It’s been an honor to serve as your General Manager, and I look forward to working with you through June. Please feel free to seek me out at the Co-op with any questions!

Happy New Year!
Pat
