Beer and Wine Weekly Update, January 26, 2015
By Joey Bowling, Beer and Wine Manager
Straight from Colorado, one of the USA’s most prolific states for brewing suds, Oskar Blues is in the house! I’ve been hearing good things about this beer for a couple of years now and finally have a chance to lay my hands on some - and so do you! Old Chub Scotch Ale (8% ABV, rich malts and smoked grains, Bronze Medal at the 2011 GABF), Ten Fidy Imperial Stout (10.5% ABV, chocolate malt and roasted barley, 98 IBUs), Momma’s Little Yella Pils (2011 GABF Best Bohemian Style Pilsner), and of course, the brew that made them famous, Dale’s Pale Ale (6.5% ABV, balanced hops and malts, 65 IBUs), are all here in frosty cans.
Additionally, 21st Amendment Brewing Company from San Francisco has arrived. Currently we have the Brew Free or Die IPA and the Sneak Attack Saison. Check ‘em out!
We have a whole slew of locally produced bombers right now: Stone Corral from Huntington, Simple Roots from the New North End in Burlington, Bent Hill from Braintree, Crop Brewery from Stowe, and Foley Brothers from Brandon. We also have a lot of the biggies too: Long Trail, Rock Art, Switchback, Shed, and Magic Hat.
With spring right around the corner (right?), pink wines are starting to creep back into my consciousness, and we have a couple of local ones that are great right now. Fresh Tracks Farm produces a nice off-dry rosé called Little Piggy Pink, and Boyden Valley Winery represents quite well with their charming Rosé La Juju. Both are produced from Frontenac vines growing on their own farms.
Until next week…..Qapla’!
