On the Road to Chemical Reform with Seventh Generation’s Toxin Freedom Fighters
Seventh Generation, the nation's leading brand of non-toxic and renewable bio-based household, baby and personal care solutions, works passionately every day to eliminate harmful toxins from everyday household products. For 25 years we've created products for healthy homes by using plant-derived, bio-based ingredients. But not all products are held to the same standards, and we think this should change. To protect our families, children and pets, we launched The Campaign For a Toxin-Free Generation, the first-ever national campaign to bring about meaningful reform to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) that has laid dormant since 1976.
Unlike other major environmental laws, TSCA has never been updated and has proven to be an ineffective law for regulating chemicals. For the past 30 years, the law has allowed 62,000 chemicals to remain on the market without required testing.
With capes, masks and petitions in hand, Seventh Generation's Toxin Freedom Fighters are looking to change that by inspiring individuals to take a stand for what we all deserve -- no more toxic chemicals in our lives. By bike, by skateboard, or by foot, the influential kids are stepping up to make a difference, speaking out to Congress and calling on others to do the same by signing the petition to benefit their generation and generations to come.
The Toxin Freedom Fighters' favorite facts:
- We are hit with 300 toxins before we're even born
- Early exposure to toxic chemicals may lead to increased likelihood of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and other diseases and health problems
- The primary U.S. law that regulates chemicals in everyday products hasn't been updated in 38 years
"It's just not right that we have to worry about toxic chemicals in our homes, our schools, and in the water and products we use every day. Today hundreds of untested chemicals find their way into the bloodstream of our children, even prior to birth. As a parent I believe we must mobilize to protect our children and the next generation," said John Replogle, President and CEO, Seventh Generation. "As a business leader, I'm joined by hundreds of other like-minded leaders who feel that it is time for business to act and to take the lead in urging Congress to reform chemical safety. It's our collective moral duty to see this change through by reforming State and Federal chemical regulations to keep the next generation safe and healthy."
At the end of April 2014, Seventh Generation, along with The Toxin Freedom Fighters and partners, will head to Washington, D.C. to present the petition and urge Congress to pass meaningful chemical reform to protect public health and the environment.
Seventh Generation is working toward a future where everyone is protected and living in a toxin-free environment, and you can join us. Find out more about the Campaign for a Toxin Free Generation and sign the petition urging Congress to stand up for safer chemicals at www.fighttoxins.com.
Seventh Generation will be at City Market on April 22, 23 and 24 giving out samples and coupons and collecting signatures for their petition.
