Bringing Food, Art, and Community Spirit to the New Community Health Center
By Caroline Homan, Food Education Coordinator
On June 19th, Co-op members brought a multi-sensory and hands-on food and art workshop to the Grand Opening celebration of the new Community Health Center building on Riverside Avenue. “Your workshop was such a hit during our Grand Opening (I’m still dreaming about the pickled veggies…SO good!)!” said Kimberly Anderson, Development Program Manager. When they weren’t rotating through the food stations, kids and their caregivers helped cut out shapes for the quilted banner under Bonnie Acker’s cheerful guidance and then Woodie Puretz took it home to complete the sewing. The banner says “Welcome” in eight different languages.
The Community Health Center will be open to the public for activities and tours during the “Community Day” Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Stop by and see the friendly staff, tour the building, and learn about the great services for yourself.
Many thanks to Bonnie Acker, Monique Cardillo, Rebecca Foster, Naomi Mitsuda, Beth Muller, Birgitta Polson, and Woodie Puretz for their Co-op Member Work!
