Help Vermont Protect the Nutrition Safety Net
Spread the Word: Sign On to the 2012 Farm Bill Nutrition Coalition Recommendations
The 2012 Farm Bill provides an important opportunity to make real progress on ending hunger in Vermont and across America. The great recession has shown how vital the nutrition safety net is for Americans in difficult times. Despite extremely high unemployment and increases in poverty, hunger has not risen to the same extent. The nutrition programs within the Farm Bill have helped keep food on the table in tough times. It is critical that these programs be both protected against proposed cuts and strengthened to ensure that every American has access to the nutritious food they need to grow, learn, and thrive as a productive member of society.
A coalition of concerned organizations in Vermont has come together to propose common recommendation for the Nutrition Title programs of the Farm Bill. With 1 in 7 Vermonters now considered food insecure, including 1 in 5 children, the coalition is strongly encouraging Congress to fully fund these programs and make much needed improvements.
