FRESH Film and Panel Discussion at the Food & Wine Film Festival

FRESH, a documentary film featuring some of the country’s leading specialists on sustainable agriculture will be at Merrill’s Roxy Cinema during the Food & Wine film festival in Burlington May 14 - May 20.  A panel discussion with FRESH’s Producer and Director, ana Sofia joanes, will following the 7pm showing on May 16.

The film festival is part of Vermont Restaurant Week, presented by City Market, Seven Days and the Vermont Federal Credit Union, which runs concurrently with the screenings.

Instead of presenting a message of doom and gloom, hope brightly shines through FRESH.  The film celebrates farmers, thinkers and business-people across America that are working to create a new model for modern agriculture — one that embraces healthy, local food and that confronts today's unresolved health and environmental issues.

Among several main characters, FRESH features Milwaukee urban farmer and activist, Will Allen, the recipient of The MacArthur Foundation’s 2008 Genius Award and sustainable farmer and entrepreneur, Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan’s book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma.

From 4 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, May 16th, Burlington’s Bluebird Tavern will host a reception for 50 people with FRESH’s Producer/Director, ana Sofia joanes, in attendance.  Tickets to this reception are $30.00 and will include a voucher to attend a screening of FRESH.  To purchase tickets for this reception, e-mail Joyce Cellars at Joyce@intervale.org.

At 8:15 pm non May 16th, FRESH’s Producer/Director, ana Sofia joanes, will participate in a panel discussion to be held directly after the film’s 7:00 pm screening at Merrill’s Roxy Cinema.  Charlie Nardozzi, host of Vermont Garden Journal on Vermont Public Radio, will moderate this interactive discussion that will also feature Vermont Representative David Zuckerman and other local speakers.
