A photograph of a wide, old tree. It is lit by round white lights scattered in the lower branches. The tree seems to glow from the inside. In front of the tree, low dark wooden benches are arranged in two rows.

John Donoghue is a South Burlington photographer and lifelong Vermonter who finds inspiration from the state’s natural landscape.

Its crisp cold winters, short but brilliant summers, much waited for spring, and over-stated (but still amazing) fall provide many opportunities to capture small moments of wonder, coincidence, light, and unexpected symmetry. He takes joy in playful macros and interesting lines of focus, and knows that the best camera is the one you have with you.

John’s photography seeks to capture the small moments that tell a larger story. Like a note in the margin of your favorite book, his images spark memories of the small things that make life’s grand moments specific, intimate and special. He hopes that his work here helps viewers to find that spark for themselves.
