December & January Downtown Member Artist: Meghan Raymond Ketterling

Inspired by therapeutic nature walks and the occasional and fleeting cairns quietly erected by strangers, the shapes made on these prints position themselves in both familiar and unique ways. They sometimes find support as stacked stones, each shape resting on the curves and angles of others. Sometimes, individual elements float as though in search of a resting place. Their palettes are drawn from local natural features - both geologic and biologic - as well as the weather that shapes them persistently. They reflect the uniqueness of every moment, while creating an experience for processing related emotions.

Independent yet interdependent, these compositions provoke questions about the interrelatedness of individuals and groups, concepts of Self and Other, support systems, and the need for solitude and connection.

This series consists of one-of-a-kind prints (monoprints) completed between 2020 and 2022 with Akua inks on 100 percent cotton rag (archival) paper using a 30” x 48” Takach etching press. 

Meghan lives with her husband, daughter, two cats and dog in Burlington, Vermont. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and MFA from The University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign.
