Burlington Children’s Space is an early childhood center deeply rooted in Burlington’s Old North End. Programming is based on the interests and curiosities of the children, and the unique culture and resources of our local community. Last year, the children of the Green Preschool classroom pursued an in-depth study of textiles including weaving, using a sewing machine, dyeing yarn, hand sewing, fabric printing, and quilting. Each child began the quilting project by drawing their idea for a quilt square, then using fabric, ribbon and a sewing machine (with the guidance of a teacher) to make their quilt square plans a reality. This collaborative quilt is one of the artifacts of this long-term study.
