*all spots in this walk have been filled!*
With its history and ease of access, The Intervale is the perfect place to go and learn about some of the wonderful foraged foods and flavors we can find in Vermont.
On our plant walk, we will meet at the Intervale and have an initial discussion about safety, guidelines, and have a quick “get to know each other.” As we walk, we will learn about a number of different plants, and perhaps fungi, along the way and ways that they can be used in the kitchen and maybe in some other ways. We will also discuss the history of foraging in Vermont and of the uses of the various things we find, the connection that the practice can provide to the people who came before us, and what the practice of foraging means to each of us. When we hear foraging many of us immediately just think of mushrooms, and while they are great, there is also an abundance of delicious and other useful things we can forage that we can sometimes find simply right in our back yards. This will be a fun walk and learning experience and a great opportunity to share some time outside with like-minded folks and embrace all that the fine earth has to offer.
Bronislaw Grala, aka Broni, has been living in the Burlington, Vermont area for the last twenty plus years. For a majority of that time he has been nurturing a passion for foraging wild goods and wandered many of the fields and forests of the region to find various different plants, fungi, and other flavors that were not commonly found in our markets until rather recently; along with many that still won’t show up in the market. Between workshops, classes, research, and walks and talks with elders and other foragers he has developed a deep connection to the earth in Vermont and all that is offered from some of the less developed places around here.
Spaces in this walk are limited and registration is required. More info on where to meet will be sent to participants in advance.
