Mosaic of Flavor Livestream: Afghan Chicken Curry and Naan
Virtual programming
The Mosaic of Flavor cooking series is a collaboration between City Market and USCRI Vermont (US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants Vermont, formerly the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program). In February, we will welcome instructor Shakirullah Safi who is from Kunar Province, Afghanistan and arrived in Burlington with his wife and three young children in December, 2021. Shakirullah will teach us how to make Charg Carrayee (Afghan chicken curry), including how to quickly break down a whole chicken. He will also teach us how to make Naan Dodai (baked naan flatbread) that is a staple of Afghan cuisine and is traditionally served with Charg Carrayee. Shakirullah was a chef with the US Army in Afghanistan for 4 years before serving as a soldier in the US military special forces for 8 years. He is excited to share with us his knowledge of Afghan cuisine and some of his family's favorite recipes. The class will be taught in Pashto with English interpreting.
Tickets are donation-based, with all ticket fees sent to USCRI to aid in their mission. Class will be held on the Microsoft Teams platform and joining instructions will be sent to participants in advance.
