When these photos showed up in my daily email from our new egg farmer, I knew I couldn’t just file them away. 

Flower Power Vermont is now providing us with fresh, organic eggs from their farm in Ferrisburgh.

The color of a chicken egg depends on the breed of hen – Flower Power’s pastel blue and green eggs are from the Auracana breed, native to Chile.

Flower Power’s organic certification means the hens are fed organic grains, free of genetically modified grains. The hens are outside on pasture during the summer, eating bugs, finding worms, and enjoying dust baths. 

You can meet the farmer, Anne Flack-Matthews, on Saturday at the last winter farmers’ market. Caroline from City Market will be there, dyeing eggs with beet juice and other natural dyes. Sounds like a great celebration of spring.
