Celebrate National Dairy Month at the Co-op!
Got milk? We sure do here in Vermont. Despite challenges in the dairy industry in our state, milk generates more sales than any other Vermont agricultural product and it brings in $2.2 billion in economic activity to our state each year. Enjoy Cabot Clothbound Cheddar, Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, or Ploughgate Creamery cultured butter? Well then, you’ve got a dairy farmer to thank!
Here at City Market, we pride ourselves on offering the cream of the crop (no pun intended) when it comes to local dairy products. In terms of fluid milk, we offer a variety of options from Sweet Rowen Farmstead, Kimball Brook Farm Organic milk, and a special collaboration Vermont Co-op Milk with our friends over at Monument Farms in Weybridge. This last product is available exclusively at City Market, Hunger Mountain Co-op, and Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op. In light of the volatility in commodity milk pricing, this is one way that we help ensure a stable price for our farm partners.
Not a fan of the milk mustache? We’ve got you covered with plenty of other locally produced dairy products. You haven’t tasted yogurt until you’ve tried Butterworks Farm’s organic maple yogurt. As Jack Lazor (farm owner and operator) puts it, “Butterworks Farm is a farm where a cow can be a cow.” If cheese is what you’re looking for, look no further than our refrigerated cheese case. From Cobb Hill Farm in Hartland to our fellow cooperative friends over at Cabot, to the cave dwellers over at Jasper Hill, we’ve got something for everyone.
This month, we’re celebrating these producers and many more who help support the dairy industry here in Vermont as part of National Dairy Month. Swing by the Co-op for product demonstrations from local vendors this Saturday, June 17th and enter to win our legen-DAIRY giveaway.
